Need An Increased API Query Limit?
« on: October 29, 2009, 07:19:37 am »
A Faithful User wrote in and asked us this question:

"What is the daily limit if I have an API Key and how do I go about increasing it?"

We're glad you asked, Faithful User. That's an insightful and thought-provoking question, and clearly you are Our Kind Of Guy.

The default limit for API Keys is 300 lookups per day. This is usually sufficient for most sites, but there are some BotScout clients who have more daily activity than that.

We're not a for-profit service but our resources are limited (which is why there are API Key limits at all). To be honest, we *don't* want to charge for the BotScout service, but it's become a heck of a lot more popular much faster than we ever imagined. We handle about a half-million API queries per day right now and it's starting to beat our server to death (as well as cost us a fair bit in bandwidth). So, we have two choices: shut it down or charge enough to help cover our costs.

If you need to do a large number of queries per day, we ask for a small amount of cold, hard cash to help us cover our bandwidth and hosting costs. For $10 a month we can increase the Key limit to 1,000 per day, for $15 a month we can increase it to 2,000 a day.

So, if you need more than the default 300 lookups per day, just mail us some gold nuggets, diamonds, or valuable antiques in good condition. Or, use PayPal to send us a year's worth of dirty, filthy money ($120 or $180). Make sure you tell us what your API Key is or we may take yer money and skip town, possibly to the Bahamas or some place that's warm and sunny.
