New Here.
« on: May 12, 2009, 10:52:00 AM »
Was searching out a new member, and came across this board. Very interesting.

I figure I got my First Bot registered with my board. And I thought I have all the protection in place.

I have an IPB 2.3 board, well modified with security and Bot control.

I also have to allow new members in, after I check them out, the last one was iffy, but I allowed in, and continued on doing some checking.

So far no posts. But this person uses the same email address dominoesstars2@gmail.com ..has numerous names on other forums, The IP is 122.168.78.113 name Marktaylor..

Thanks Ron..

We've added this bot/human/whatever to the list. Thanks! :)

FWIW, the mod suggested by MysteryFCM is probably the single best anti-bot code or modification available anywhere. It checks multiple sites and has an excellent "catch" rate. Highly recommended.

If you're comfortable with coding, you may want to consider using the following;

http://support.it-mate.co.uk/?mode=Products&p=spambotsearchtool

There's an IPB mod at;

http://temerc.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=71&t=6487

And of course, there's also the BotScout BotBuster;

http://botscout.com/code.htm

I am not a Coder, and I don't think I ever will be.. I had a SMF forum and 1.1.8 board and tried to upgrade it to 2.0 RCI was asking support for help, all I ever got was lots of links. So I tried the upgrade, well I cleared the entire forum.. Nothing left.. So much for coder and upgrades..

I have two IPB forums and a pphbb3 forum, one of the members has a support group for IPB, plus I know the guys that do codings and mod.'s.. So I let them do the work..

I have been fortunate, this is the first Bot in almost five years. I'd say because I don't just let anyone into my forums.. I have a Seniors Forum and a Political Forum. Even Spammers I've nailed pretty easy..
