BotScout Discussion / Re: IP of a legit user in DB
« on: June 15, 2009, 02:03:44 PM »
It's actually listed in 3 databases;

http://temerc.com/Check_Spammers/index.php?name=&email=&ip=196.35.158.184

Doesn't appear to be an F/P unfortunately. ProjectHoneyPot lists it as a harvester and spammer.

Looking up the PTR (bc1-rba-1-0.cache.isnet.net), it appears to possibly be a proxy at his ISP's end (his ISP will be able to confirm this) .

If you are sure he's legit, you may want to add him to a whitelist until he's able to change IP's, or he's able to find out from his ISP whether he can get a direct IP assigned (rather than going through their proxy).

Can you give me the IP please?

Mike will do, yes :)

It needs a bit of work at present as most bots seem to be avoiding it (presumably because they've identified how to detect it)

Could I also sign up for the bot trapping?

Unfortunately not, no. The bot trapping facility is not currently available publicly.

I'll get it setup :)

Arguing with PHP+IMAP myself atm (got everything working fine - except pagination, lol)

I grabbed a copy of the latest Joomla source, and strangely, can't find the registration/login forms. I've not actually installed it yet though (latest windows updated crippled the system before I had the chance), but will do in a bit, and see if I can find the files the long way round.

Only difference is the OS and PHP versions. For example, both my development machine, and the following server, are running Windows (different versions, but still Windows) and PHP5;

http://avant.it-mate.co.uk/dl/Tools/Spambot_Search_Tool/simple/check_spammers_plain.php?email=test@it-mate.co.uk

They both correctly return False.

The TIC server (the one with the issue) runs both PHP4 and 5 (not my choice and sadly, the hosting company won't remove 4), so has to be forced to use 5 by the .htaccess, and runs on Linux.

I don't have another Linux system at present, to verify which is at fault :(

What is actually interesting, is that when I checked this from my development machine, it didn't produce these results - it correctly returned false? (I'm wondering if it's checking the servers IP when no IP is actually passed?)

Here you go :)

Code: [Select]
SENT: http://botscout.com/test/?multi&key={MY_API_KEY}&mail=test@it-mate.co.uk&ip=&name=

RECEIVED: Y|MULTI|IP|14|MAIL|0|NAME|0

BotScout TRUE

If no IP/username etc is passed to the script, it doesn't send anything in those fields, to the BS API.

Mike,
There appears to be a bug with the MULTI query. The following for example, appears to return true for the IP, even though an IP was not passed?

http://temerc.com/Check_Spammers/check_spammers_plain.php?email=test@it-mate.co.uk&debug=1

I'm not sure which IP it's matching 14 times ????

The only time it's an issue is as you said, when we're testing, so I can easily filter that out if I have to :)
